What’s Cheating in a Game?

Are you ready to cheat to win? Would you do everything it takes to win? No, it’s not about taking steroids or other crim stuffs. No, it’s about tiny tricks sometimes we need to do and sometimes too are parts of the game. Tell me about it, did you push your own golf ball once during play or “forgot” a penalty count?

This came to my thought when my friend’s son said something about his role on a hockey game. There was a tight chase near the goal and he stopped the puck right on the goal line…as the referee saw. But that’s not what the opponent players saw. (Un)Fortunately the referee has made his decision the play continued. On the way home, his son told him: “Dad, the puck has crossed the line…” …That was a bit disturbing, thought my friend. Part of him said maybe it really did cross the line, but the other said it was merely part of the game and the decision has been made. Which side would you be?

Personally, I would have made the same option. Whether I would go for a cheat or to play by the rules are part of the game…on certain limits of course. And these limits are made by the referee and those who made the rules. Further, it is in my opinion that champions are often the best cheaters. Take hockey for example. Look at the center players who are famous to win their face-offs. They all cheat. They always move too quickly. Sometimes, they get caught by the referee but they get to a point where they succeed in being right on the line of the acceptable one. And this line varies from one referee to another and they have to adjust. One often speaks about experience in these cases… but that remains cheating ;-) And what about those soccer goalkeepers during penalty shots?

As parents, what is the right to do? I know that most of you would make the same choice as my friend did. How can I say that? Notice your reaction when the referee made a decisively false decision, you would turn disappointed, protest and critizise. But when the same decision give you some benefits, there’s only silence ;) . No need for the guilty feeling, it’s human to do so. You would cheer your son to win, because you know that victory brings joy to your son. On many occasions, your kids would be the ones to react if you don’t do anything;)

This said, there are limits, you’ll agree with me. Fair-play must always be a golden rule in sports and this must be taught to the children. It is the coaches and parents duty to delimit what is acceptable of what is not. As a coach, it happened to me a few times, for example in basketball, to ask one of my players to give the ball to the opponent or to voluntarily throw the ball outside to compensate for an error of the referee. At first, the players and the crowd look at you strangely: “That’s it! The coach lost it!” But after thinking, the message is understood.

Victory acquired in the code of practice is more appreciated than a victory acquired while cheating… even if one can allow some irregularities in the excitement of the game ;-)

Sometimes a tip is obviously recognized as a cheat. But how about this one below? It’s just tips for one of the most widely played MMORPG today. Is it a cheat?

While the following information can be utilized for characters from either faction, it applies mainly to those of the Horde.

Waste no time and pain leveling up to level ten, make it to Brill. This is the undead city and the quests that are given out are the easiest ones to complete at this level. They are all relatively short and don’t require you to journey as far as other quests in World of Warcraft.

Questing is by far the superior choice for leveling quickly. Completing quests will provide you with the most experience per time spent playing, unless you like threats to your sanity by relentless tedium of grinding and killing the same monsters over and over again.

Try focusing on slaying the enemies that appear yellow than the ones that appear green to you but be sure that they are only three to four levels below your current level.

While power leveling, you will be far better off soloing World of Warcraft than you will wasting your time searching for groups to go questing with. Things will go more quickly for you if you eliminate this wasted time. This way there is no need to rely upon other players’ time schedules or waste time worrying about the needs of other WoW players.

Finally, always make an effort to log out in one of the major cities or an Inn when you are ready to leave the World of Warcraft realm and return to the real world.

If you follow these simple tips, you will definitely have a speed leveling advantage over your fellow WoW players. You will find yourself leveling quickly with a much shorter amount of your in game time spent in World of Warcraft struggling to do so.
