The Nintendo Wii is one of the most sought after gifts for this holiday season. The hype for this gaming system has caused a shopping frenzy. There are reports of outages from retailers all over the country. Several retailers have reported of selling out of Nintendo Wiis within minutes of receiving a new shipment. In fact, international demand is at an all time high as well. The scarcity of the Nintendo Wii is compounded by reports that the manufacturer admits that it cannot meet demand for the 2007 holiday season. Nintendo has even started to pull advertising for the Wii in order to reduce demand in some markets.
So, with all of this shopping commotion you are probably wondering: "How can I find a Nintendo Wii console?" Well lucky for you there are some simple and not so simple tips that you can use to buy a Nintendo Wii for Christmas.
Offline and in the Cold
Let’s start with the not so simple tips first. If you wish to purchase the Nintendo Wii at its market price then you will need to purchase it from an offline retailer like Toys ‘R’ Us or Wal-Mart. It’s best to have a discussion with the manger of the retail store of your choice to determine when they plan to have a new shipment of the gaming system. Most times theses shipments will come in during the evening and mostly on Saturdays. Be prepared to brave the cold because you will most likely have to stand in line at least two hours before the store opens to get your chance to purchase a Wii.
Online and in the Money
If standing in line outside in the cold for hours on end is not your idea of a good time and if you have the extra cash then I recommend that you make your Nintendo Wii purchase online. The most popular online retailers that have consistently had the Nintendo Wii in stock are Amazon.com and eBay.com. However, I should mention that it’s really third party sellers that have these items and most likely you’ll have to pay a $200 markup over retail for these game systems.
Avoid the Scams
With so many people desperate for the Nintendo Wii, this over active market has not gone unnoticed by the online scammers. There have been several reports from people throughout the country of various Nintendo Wii scams. They largely originate from small websites that claim to have the Wii in stock and priced at retail. However, once you place your order you start receiving strange requests such as a $500 minimum total order amount, as well as requesting that you wire the money to some mysterious individual in a foreign country. Don’t be fooled by these con artists. Only buy your Nintendo Wii from a reputable online retailer that you trust.
Getting a Wii for the holidays is possible but it may take a great deal of effort or cash. However, if you follow the tips in this article you should be playing "Super Mario Galaxy" on your brand new Wii come Christmas Morning.
