Movie Video Games – The New Wave of Official Movie Tie-ins
[ad#336x280-txt-336ca1-inpost]
There’s been official movie video games almost as long as there have been methods to play video games. Whilst many of them have been decent, the majority have been somewhat mediocre in essentially every way that made the movies they are based around great. This year, thankfully there is a bumper crop of movie video games on release to enjoy- some of which may well be much better than the films themselves!
First up there’s the official movie video game based on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This all-action game is not surprisingly far better than the Wolverine film itself! Developed by Raven Software, the Wolverine video game boasts a somewhat different story-line to the blockbuster film, but it does have Hugh Jackman’s voice and visual likeness. The game features all of Wolverine’s powers, which are put to use in an interesting way- in particular his healing ability.
As far as Marvel video games go, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie video game is extremely violent, as you’ll notice from the battlefield decorated with torn-up stiffs and other lovely things. Well, Wolverine certainly has claws. Here you can make him use them to their complete dangerous effect.
In addition, there is the new multi-platform game established on Terminator Salvation, the newest film in the time travel cyborg sci-fi adventure franchise. Where both Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and its movie video game version were really bad, this appears to be going in tandem with the exciting new vision of the new Terminator film and is superb to see and play. Here’s a notable example of how movie video games are getting better a great deal lately.
Now thanks to 2 player co-operative game-play, the Terminator franchise is catching up with other video games such as the huge hit Gears of War series, permitting for some fun split-screen action to be had. Merge this with the remarkably rendered futuritic distopian world that the movie video game is set in, which you can use to your full advantage while playing the game, and you have one impressive prospect for several video games consoles Sony Playstation and Xbox 360.
The new Ghostbusters movie video game is something that is quite rightfully causing a big hubbub. With the revelation that the third Ghostbusters movie is finally going to be made, 20 years after Ghostbusters 2 was released, now is the superb time to get reacquainted with the iconic Ghostbusters characters and scenes. Let’s face it, that 1st is a genuine classic in every sense of the concept, and finally there is a movie video game that does it the justice it deserves.
The plot behind the new Ghostbusters game was created by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, the writers (and stars) of the classic first two Ghostbusters movies, so the game may even be canon to a certain extent. The classic original four Ghostbusters movie characters have been back as fantastic digital representations of the stars, and the whole game looks brilliant. All of your vital stats are given on your Proton pack, giving this movie video game a similar feel to Dead Space. With all of the classic monsters showing up in the game, fans will be delighted when they get hold of it for their DS, PS3, PC, Xbox 360 or Wii.
After such a number of mediocre movie video game tie-ins, it seems to be that the new titles that are coming out are being created with much more of an eye on for the source material and also what the fans want out of a movie video game based on their favourite films. These are a selection of the finest movie video games out right now, and hopefully they’ll help you unveil a great new level of fun from your favourite films.
